CONTRAST THERAPY
What is contrast therapy?
Contrast therapy—also known as hot and cold therapy (and the inspiration behind Shiver & Sweat)—is the practice of alternating between the heat of an infrared sauna and the cold of a plunge. This shift in temperature creates a brief but powerful stimulus in the body, stimulating circulation, supporting recovery, and helping reset both body and mind.
Rooted in centuries-old Nordic traditions, this simple, elemental ritual has long been used to build resilience, restore energy, and bring the body back into balance.
Why choose Shiver & Sweat for contrast therapy?
Each session takes place in a private contrast suite featuring an infrared sauna, cold plunge, and shower, allowing you to move between heat and cold at your own pace.
Our suites are designed to comfortably accommodate two people, with our XL suite able to host up to four—making it easy to share the experience with a partner or group.
We feature best-in-class BlueCube cold plunges, widely considered the gold standard in the industry, with advanced filtration and sanitation systems to ensure consistently clean, high-quality water. Cleanliness is a top priority—our systems are designed for it, and water is regularly refreshed to maintain the highest standards.
Every suite also includes guided contrast protocols to help you get the most out of your session, whether you're focused on recovery, relaxation, or boosting energy for the day ahead.
Pro tip: Contrast therapy memberships include a complimentary guest with every session, making it easy to share the experience with a partner or friend.
How long are sessions?

For parties larger than two, we recommend contacting the studio to book. If you are a package holder there is a small fee for each additional person you bring; please refer to the booking page on our website for more details
What is a typical contrast therapy protocol?
Each contrast suite includes guided protocols designed to help you get the most out of your session.
A widely recommended approach—based on the work of leading contrast therapy researcher Dr. Susanna Søberg—is to begin with 20–25 minutes of heat, followed by 1–3 minutes of cold, then repeat for a second round.
Over time, you can personalize your timing and flow based on your goals and how your body responds.
Can beginners try contrast therapy?
Absolutely. Contrast therapy can be very beginner-friendly when approached gradually.
If you’re new to sauna and cold plunge, it’s helpful to arrive well hydrated and start with shorter cold exposures while focusing on slow, steady breathing.
The goal isn’t to push your body to extremes, but to build tolerance over time in a way that feels supportive and sustainable. Our studio team is always available to answer questions and help guide your first session so you have a safe, comfortable, and empowering experience.
What should I wear during my contrast session?
You can wear whatever you would like in the sauna – we have towels available for you to use in your suite. For the cold plunge, we require a swimsuit or spandex shorts while plunging.
Do you provide towels?
Yes! You will find several towels already setup in the sauna for your session as well as shower towels.
Each suite is also outfitted with shower products: shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
RED LIGHT THERAPY (COMING SOON)
What is red light therapy?
Red light therapy is a light-based treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body at a cellular level.
These wavelengths are absorbed by the mitochondria, helping increase production of ATP (cellular energy)—the fuel your body uses for repair, recovery, and overall function.
What are the benefits of red light therapy?
Red light therapy supports cellular energy production, which can help improve recovery, reduce muscle soreness and inflammation, support skin health and collagen production, increase energy levels, and promote overall cellular function and long-term vitality.
What makes your red light therapy different?
At Shiver & Sweat, we will feature a clinical-grade, full-body red light therapy system designed to deliver significantly more powerful and consistent results than typical at-home devices.
This allows for deeper penetration, more precise wavelengths, and full-body coverage—creating a more effective and complete.
Is red light therapy safe?
Yes, red light therapy is considered a safe, non-invasive treatment with no downtime. It’s widely used to support recovery, skin health, and overall wellness.
How long are sessions?
Because we will be offering a clinical grade red light machine session length will only need be 15 minutes.
More details will be available as we get closer to launch.
How often should I use red light therapy?
Most people benefit from consistent use, typically 2–4 sessions per week, depending on their goals.
How should I prepare for my Red Light session?
For optimal results, we recommend arriving with clean, product-free skin, as lotions, oils, or makeup can limit light absorption and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
Red light therapy is safe, non-invasive, and can be done at any time of day. It also integrates seamlessly with our other services and can be used before or after your sauna or contrast session.
For a more personalized experience, you’re welcome to bring headphones and enjoy music or a podcast during your session.
